ADMISSION POLICY
Hamstead Hall is an Academy for the 11 – 18 age range. There are approximately 1100 pupils on roll in September 2017, including 176 in the Sixth Form. 190 pupils were admitted in September 2017.

Previous Pattern at the Time of Allocation
In 2015, 2016 and 2017 the academy received more applications than there were places available. For the 2017 intake 905 preferences were received ranking the academy 1 – 6. The last child admitted lived 1.890 km from the academy.
There is no guarantee that the same pattern will occur in 2018, but parents/carers should consider the above information carefully when expressing preferences.

Admission Criteria
When there are more applications than places available at the academy the following criteria will be used to determine which children will be allocated places:
1. Looked after or previously looked after children (in public care)
2. Children who are currently in Year 6 at Grestone Academy
3. Children with a brother or sister already at the academy at the time of admission.
4. Distance from the Academy
Within each of these categories, priority is given to those who live nearest to the academy, calculated on the basis of a straight-line measurement between home and the academy. For further information regarding admission procedures please see ‘Opportunities For Your Child in Birmingham Secondary Education 2018’.
