2026 Chess Tournament Final Results

The fifth annual Hamstead Hall Academy Chess Tournament concluded this week after a thrilling final that kept spectators on edge across three days of competition. This year’s champion, Joshua, a Year 7 pupil, claimed victory after an impressive run against a strong field that included previous winners and older, more experienced players.
The final was played against Ksawery in a closely contested match that showed the determination and skill of both competitors. Their opening game ended in a tense stalemate, setting the stage for the dramatic finish that followed. Joshua held his nerve and demonstrated excellent tactical awareness to secure the win.
Joshua’s victory is particularly notable given that he is one of the youngest competitors in the tournament. Despite facing older pupils and former champions, he remained calm under pressure and played with maturity beyond his years. His achievement will be remembered as his name will now be engraved on the Hamstead Hall Academy Chess Tournament Trophy, joining the list of previous winners.
The tournament once again proved to be a highlight of the school calendar, with a high standard of play throughout and growing interest from pupils across all year groups. Congratulations to Joshua on a well-deserved win, and well done to all 16 players who took part in this year’s competition.
