Academy Musical Oliver!
We have now finished our run of the Hamstead Hall Academy Trust production of Oliver!, Lionel Bart’s musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’. The show premiered in the West End in 1960 and was made into the famous Oscar winning film of the same name in 1968. One of the reasons we chose Oliver!, apart from the brilliant songs and story, was that it gave us the opportunity to have a large cast on stage AND include students from Grestone Academy for the first time in a whole Academy Trust production. Working with such a big cast has been a challenge but also a joy and we are very proud of the cast and band and the high levels of commitment and maturity they have shown throughout. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous individuals that have supported the show; backstage and technical crew, programme and refreshment sellers, production assistants, wardrobe and set design and construction. Highlights from the night included the songs ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘Pick a Pocket or Two’, ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘Who Will Buy’ and many more – thank you all very much to those who supported the production.
