5 January 2021 - Academy Closure

Click here to read the full letter.

Sadly, we find ourselves once again taking the unusual action of closing Hamstead Hall Academy following the announcement by the Prime Minister yesterday of another National Lockdown. This applies to all students other than those who fall into the vulnerable children and/or children of keyworkers category. Unfortunately, this means the academy will remain closed until further notice.

As a result of this, all lessons will now be delivered remotely for all the students. Work/lessons will be uploaded on Google Classroom each day, which will shadow your child’s timetable. We would ask for the support of parents and carers to remind your child to access Google Classroom each day at the time of the timetabled lessons.

As we stated in our letter dated 31 December 2020 on the academy website, we have now set up a Parent Portal on Remote Learning which gives you further information about our remote learning strategy and the opportunity to contact us for help if your child is unable to access the Remote Learning The portal can also be reached using the link:

Children of Key Workers

During this lockdown we will continue to provide on site provision for vulnerable children and our children of Key Workers. If you are a Key Worker and would like to take up this provision, you will need to provide some form of ID, eg ID badge to confirm your key worker status. We will need to see your ID before your child attends school. Your child will also need to arrive at school by 8.45 am at the very latest.

GCSE and A Level Exams

The Prime Minister also announced that the school closures meant that it would "not be possible or fair" for all exams to happen this summer "as normal". We do not know what this will look like but would expect some form of assessment and exam process when students return to school to help inform the grades students are awarded. We fully appreciate that this will cause students and parents a lot of worry and anxiety. Although we wait for further guidance from the Education Secretary, we expect all students in Years 11 and 13 to fully engage with the remote learning during this period away from school. We will provide further information regarding exams when we receive it.

BTEC Examinations

It has been confirmed that BTEC examinations scheduled in January will continue as normal and students taking these should arrive in school 20 minutes prior to the advertised start time.

No school leader wants to close their school and deprive children of their education. This is an incredibly challenging time for us all, but the health and wellbeing of everyone must be protected. Working together, we have got through the last nine months and with your support we are confident that we will get through this next challenge that we face.

We will keep you updated as and when we have further information.
